Governor of Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI Jakarta) Fauzi Bowo said ”Three days after the bomb blasts, the situation in the city has improved and is back to normal.” The statement is made during a media conference attended by Indonesian Police Public Relations Deputy Head Sulistyo Ishak at the Media Crisis Center on Monday (20 July 2009).
Governor explained that some visible indicators showed speedy recovery process. Furthermore, he mentioned that until today, the economic sector does not experience dramatic disturbance.
During the media conference, Fauzi Bowo pointed out “The number of passenger arrival from Friday to Sunday (17-19 July 2009) is above the average.” It was recorded that there were 1,836 arrivals and 1,724 departures. As of 20 July 2009, there are 2,779 arrivals and 2,604 departures.
Meanwhile Indonesian Police Public Relations Department Deputy Head Sulistyo Ishak said ”Based on information provided by Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team, 3 out of 9 of the deceased were identified and result of their identification are in line with ante mortem identification conducted by the Australians. Those who are being identified are Evert Mokodompis (citizen of Indonesia), Timothy McKay (citizen of New Zealand) and Andrew Senger (citizen of Australia). There are 13 victims who are still treated in hospitals (4 people in Jakarta Hospital, 1 person in Pertamina Hospital and 8 people in MMC Hospital).
It was during the occasion that Sulistyo Ishak called all sides to be patient and provide information to Indonesian Police (Polri) investigators in order to make efficient identification process that leads to conclusive and accountable information. He said, ”Polri does not draw any conclusion before it gets a clear picture. The announced information is supported by facts and valid data which are legally and scientifically accountable.”
Data issued by Office of Tourism and Culture of the Government of Jakarta Province showed that the average hotel occupancy rate is not changed much after bombings. As of 19 July 2009, the five-star hotel occupancy rate reaches 50.3%. As of today (20 July 2009), it decreased to 49.4%
Office of Tourism and Culture of the Jakarta Province announces number of people visiting various shopping malls in conjunction with ”Jakarta Great Sale”, for example Grand Indonesia visitors, decreased by 50% when the bombings took place (17 July 2009). The situation does not last that long, the next day (18 July 2009), number of visitors increased to 80%. Number of visitors increased dramatically up to 90% on Sunday and Monday (19-20 July 2009).
